Advocating for Productive Firearms and Ammunition Policies

By building strong relationships within the United States government, the F.A.I.R. Trade Group has been effective in promoting policy and statutory regulation. We've gained respect by working within the system in a non-confrontational manner, while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. We're working to eliminate many of the bureaucratic systemic inefficiencies that drive up costs and frustration levels for both the government and private sector.

Working on Your Behalf with U.S. Federal Agencies

The F.A.I.R. Trade Group works closely with U.S. federal agencies such as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the U.S. Department of State.

Educating Firearm and Ammunition Importers and Exporters

The F.A.I.R. Trade Group was the trade organization to work with ATF to bring about the first conference dedicated to discussing the regulatory matters and government policies associated with firearms and ammunition importation into the United States.

Advocating for Productive Firearms and Ammunition Policies

F.A.I.R works closely with U.S. federal agencies such as the ATF to craft regulations and policies that serve the interests of our membership.

Your Voice in U.S. Federal Government

F.A.I.R. is your advocate for productive firearms and ammunition policies.

The F.A.I.R. Trade Group is a 501(c)(6) organization dedicated to protecting the interests of the firearms and ammunition import/export community. Our mission is to keep the American firearms and ammunition markets open to the global community of suppliers to ensure consumers the broadest market choices. We operate entirely on the funds derived from contributions and our dues paying membership.

F.A.I.R. is working to eliminate many of the bureaucratic systemic inefficiencies that drive up costs and frustration levels for both the government and private sector. While maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity, F.A.I.R. works with regulatory agencies in a constructive manner to improve regulations governing firearm/ammunition imports and exports.TVoice For Firearms and Ammunition Importers and Exporters

As the voice of the firearms/ammunition import and export community, F.A.I.R. is constantly working to overcome these challenges and promote greater awareness of the significance of imports for the firearms and ammunition trades as a whole.

Since our founding in 1994, we have…

1. Engaged with Congress to promote and improve legislation that will impact our membership.  Notable examples: advocating for the in-transit exemption from the Clinton ban on Chinese imports; supporting appropriations restrictions to prevent ATF from further restricting the definition of the sporting purpose test and also from removing firearms from the curio and relic list.

2. Advocated for U.S. importer interests before the United Nations in connection with the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) and the Program of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects (POA).

3. Successfully petitioned ATF to extend the Form 6 import permit validity period to 2 years.

4. Represented U.S. importers before the Obama-Biden 2013 task force on gun violence.

5. Successfully petitioned ATF to extend the term of validity for law enforcement demonstration letters required under the NFA regulations from six months to one year.

6. Represented the interests of firearm and ammunition importers and exporters during the proposed rulemaking process reforming the U.S. export controls.

With your support, we will continue…

  •  Working with ATF to effectuate rulemaking for the Form 9 permanent export permit to be a notification  rather than an application.  We were the first trade organization to advocate for this change in 2015 in our petition for rulemaking.
  •  Advocating for the firearm and ammunition communities in an increasingly aggressive Biden Administration seeking to restrict imports  and dealing in imported firearms.
  • Bringing industry together with agency officials in our annual import/export compliance conference. Since 2001, we have continued to work with agency officials from ATF, the State Department, Customs, and more recently the Commerce Department to bring this valuable conference to the industry. Working together with the Society for International Affairs (SIA), we will continue to make this valuable opportunity available to our members and the industry at large with informative topics and high-level speakers.
